Well completion equipment is the set of downhole tools installed after drilling to prepare a well for safe, controlled production or injection. It includes packers, bridge plugs, liner hangers, landing nipples, sliding sleeves, float equipment and cementing tools.

A packer is a downhole tool that seals the annular space between the production tubing and the casing. Packers isolate zones, protect the casing from well pressure and corrosive fluids, and direct production or injection through the tubing.

Packers are grouped by setting method and service life. The main types are mechanical-set packers (set by tension, compression or rotation), hydraulic-set packers (set by tubing pressure), retrievable and permanent packers, dual-string packers, seal bore packers, and thermal packers for high-temperature and steam injection wells.

A bridge plug is set inside the casing to isolate the wellbore below it. Bridge plugs are used for zone shut-off, well testing, stimulation of upper zones, temporary abandonment and permanent plug and abandonment, often with a cement cap placed on top.

A bridge plug seals the full bore of the casing and stops all flow below it. A packer seals only the annulus between the tubing and the casing, leaving the tubing open so fluids can still be produced or injected through it.

A permanent bridge plug, typically made of drillable cast iron or composite, stays in the well until it is milled out. A retrievable bridge plug can be released and pulled back to surface, which makes it suitable for temporary isolation during workover, testing or wellhead repair.

A bridge plug blocks the wellbore to isolate the zone below. A cement retainer has a valve that allows cement to be squeezed through it into the formation or casing below, then closes to hold the squeeze pressure once the stinger is withdrawn.

A liner hanger suspends a liner, a casing string that does not extend to the surface, from the inside of the previous casing. It anchors the liner with slips and is often combined with a liner top packer to seal the overlap between the two strings.

A landing nipple is a short tubing component with a machined internal profile. It provides a set position in the completion string where flow control devices such as plugs, chokes, standing valves and gauges can be locked in place with a lock mandrel.

Float equipment, mainly float shoes and float collars, is run at the bottom of a casing string. It guides the casing to depth, allows the casing to be filled or floated, and prevents cement from flowing back into the casing after displacement.

Stage cementing tools are collars installed in a casing string that open to let cement be placed in separate stages. This reduces the hydrostatic pressure on weak formations and improves cement coverage over long casing sections.
