Complete Configurations & Capabilities

The PAK VI Hydraulic Packer Range

The PAK VI hydraulic packer range includes single-string retrievable packers for production and injection service, selective-set variants for multi-zone and stacked completions, and permanent hydraulic isolation packers for long-term zonal isolation. All configurations are set by tubing pressure against a plug below the packer and released by straight-pull on the tubing string.

Procurement engineers sourcing a full packer range from one manufacturer can match PAK VI to production, injection, multi-zone, and long-term isolation duties from a single qualification file.

Setting is actuated by the pressure differential between tubing and casing, acting on a ball or plug below the packer. A piston compresses the seal element against the casing and drives slips to grip the casing wall. A shear pin and internal lock hold the packer set after pressure is bled off, so no continuous hydraulic pressure is required downhole.

Typical setting pressure sits in the 2,500–5,000 psi range, consistent with industry practice for hydraulic-set production packers. Retrievable variants release by straight-pull on the tubing string. Permanent variants are milled out at end-of-service.

Model / VariantPressure Rating
PAK VI Hydraulic RetrievableUp to 10,000 psi differential
PAK VI Selective-SetUp to 10,000 psi differential
PAK VI Permanent Hydraulic IsolationUp to 15,000 psi differential
PAK VI Deviated / HorizontalUp to 10,000 psi differential

Selecting between a mill-to-retrieve permanent isolation packer and a retrievable packer is driven by the well plan and anticipated intervention schedule, not by purchase price.

Pressure, Temperature & Material Data

PAK VI Hydraulic Packer Specifications

PAK VI retrievable hydraulic packers are rated for differential pressures up to 10,000 psi and continuous service temperatures up to 325°F (163°C) in casing sizes from 4-1/2″ to 9-5/8″. Permanent hydraulic isolation variants extend pressure ratings to 15,000 psi. Seal elements use HNBR and FKM elastomers qualified against API 11D1 / ISO 14310 design verification grades.

PAK VI elastomer options cover the service envelope from standard HNBR, which holds through continuous operation up to approximately 350°F, to FKM (Viton) for ratings up to 400°F and FFKM (Kalrez) for higher-temperature configurations.

API 11D1 / ISO 14310 governs the design verification methodology for downhole packers. Validation grades run from V6 (minimum) through V0 (gas-tight), with V2 adding gas plus thermal cycling. See Packer standards and classifications for grade-by-grade definitions.

PAK VI retrievable configurations target V3 validation for full-temperature, full-pressure liquid service. V0 (gas-tight) is available on designated configurations. The applicable grade is configuration-specific and is stated on the test certificate issued with each shipment.

Quality Assurance

Certifications: API Q1, ISO 14310 & Quality Assurance

Maximus OIGA holds API Q1, ISO 14310, and ISO 9001 certifications at the manufacturing and quality-management level. These certifications are the mandatory tender qualification for major national oil companies and international operators.

API 11D1 — 3rd Edition, April 2015 (a modified adoption of ISO 14310:2008) — defines the design verification and quality control requirements for downhole packers and bridge plugs. Read the full API 11D1 specification for scope and grade definitions.

The companion standard, ISO 14310, defines international-equivalent design verification grades V0 through V6 and quality control levels Q1 through Q3. PAK VI packers are developed and tested against this methodology. Test certificates, material traceability records, and inspection reports accompany every PAK VI shipment.

API Q1 Quality Management

API’s quality management standard for petroleum manufacturing. Every shipment includes MTRs, dimensional inspection reports, and pressure-test certificates as a standard requirement.

ISO 14310 Design Verification

International equivalent of API 11D1. Validation grades V6 through V0 (gas-tight). PAK VI retrievable variants target V3 for full-temperature, full-pressure liquid service, with V0 available on designated configurations.

ISO 9001 + Testing Infrastructure

General quality management certification plus in-house pressure testing, thermal cycling, and sealing verification. Customer-witnessed factory acceptance testing (FAT) available on request.

Multi-Zone, Horizontal & HPHT Wells

PAK VI Hydraulic Packer Applications

Hydraulic-set packers are preferred wherever tubing rotation or weight-setting is unreliable. That covers deviated wells, horizontal completions, deep wells, and any completion where the setting operation must be executed from surface without rig intervention at depth.

Multi-zone completions use stacked hydraulic packers set independently by pressurizing against sequential plugs. Each zone is isolated without pulling tubing or running a separate intervention. PAK VI selective-set variants support this configuration directly.

Injection service — water, gas, and CO₂ — relies on hydraulic-set packers for long-term annular seal integrity. HPHT completions are addressed by upgraded elastomer and metallurgy selections on the PAK VI platform. ESP completions are accommodated by large-bore retrievable variants with control-line feed-through.

In-House Facility

Manufacturing, Testing & Quality Control in Vadodara

PAK VI packers are manufactured end-to-end at Maximus OIGA’s facility in Vadodara, Gujarat, India. The plant integrates CNC machining, elastomer compounding and molding, assembly, and a dedicated test cell for pressure and thermal cycle verification. No stage of production depends on a third-party subcontractor.

Every packer is pressure-tested to its rated differential before shipment. Material test reports, inspection records, and pressure-test certificates are issued with each unit as a standard API Q1 requirement. Raw-stock traceability links every finished assembly back to its mill certificate.

In-house testing shortens lead times versus competitors who depend on third-party test laboratories. For procurement engineers working against critical-path completion schedules, that test-cycle gap is typically two to three weeks per batch.

The Maximus Advantage

Why Choose Maximus OIGA for Hydraulic Packers

1

Well Completion Specialist

Depth over breadth. The product portfolio is deliberately concentrated on packers, bridge plugs, flow control, and liner hangers — not spread across wellheads, X-mas trees, and drilling tubulars. That concentration is what allows PAK VI to carry proprietary design detail rather than generic commodity specifications.

2

Proprietary PAK VI Series

PAK VI is designed, tested, and serialized under Maximus OIGA’s own quality management system — not a private-label sale of an external OEM’s product. That matters for traceability, for design revisions, and for field-failure root-cause analysis.

3

In-House Testing

Pressure verification, thermal cycling, and sealing integrity tests are performed inside the Vadodara facility with no dependency on a third-party test lab to close out a shipment. Customer-witnessed factory acceptance testing (FAT) is available on request.

4

200+ Installations

PAK VI has been installed in 200+ completions across India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. The installed base covers production, injection, multi-zone stacked, and long-term isolation duties.

5

Dual Certification

The manufacturing facility holds API Q1 (API’s quality management standard), ISO 14310 (downhole packer design verification), and ISO 9001. This quality tier clears tender gates that many regional competitors cannot.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About PAK VI Hydraulic Packers

A hydraulic set packer is a well isolation tool that creates an annular seal between production tubing and casing, set by pressure differential rather than by tubing manipulation. The packer is run on tubing to depth and a ball or plug is dropped below it. Tubing pressure applied against the plug pushes a piston that compresses the seal element against the casing and drives slips to grip the casing wall. A shear pin and internal lock hold the packer set after pressure is bled off, so no continuous hydraulic pressure is needed at depth.

Setting mechanism is the defining difference. Mechanical packers require tubing weight or rotation to set; hydraulic packers set using tubing pressure alone, without any tubing manipulation at depth. Hydraulic-set is preferred for deviated, horizontal, and deep wells where tubing rotation or weight-setting is unreliable. Mechanical-set is better suited to shallow, vertical, low-complexity completions. Hydraulic-set also enables stacked multi-zone completions because zones can be pressurized at specific depths without rig intervention between packers.

PAK VI covers standard oilfield casing from 4-1/2″ through 9-5/8″, extended to 10-3/4″ for permanent hydraulic isolation variants. Retrievable variants are rated up to 10,000 psi differential pressure. Permanent hydraulic isolation variants extend up to 15,000 psi. Continuous service temperature is 325°F (163°C) on standard HNBR elastomers, with higher-temperature operation available through FKM and FFKM elastomer selection. Exact configuration data is published on the product data sheets.

Maximus OIGA holds API Q1 and ISO 14310 certification at the manufacturing and quality-management level. PAK VI packer designs are developed and tested in accordance with API 11D1 / ISO 14310 design verification methodology. Target validation grades are V3 (liquid, full temperature and full pressure), with V0 (gas-tight) available on designated configurations. Testing is performed at Maximus OIGA’s in-house test facility in Vadodara, and test certificates accompany every shipment.

A permanent hydraulic isolation packer is designed to remain in place for the producing life of the well. It is set by tubing pressure and retrieved only by milling, not by straight-pull. Permanent packers are selected for long-term production zones where workover access is infrequent, HPHT or corrosive service where permanent seal integrity is prioritized, liner-top isolation, tandem completions, and abandoned-zone isolation. Retrievable variants are preferred when well intervention, re-completion, or zone selection is anticipated. The selection hinges on the well plan and intervention strategy, not on purchase price.
